  • The Benjamin Ingram company is founded at 33 Beech Street, City of London, trading as joiners and carpenters
1800 - 1850
  • Ingrams begins selling hardwoods to other joiners as the fashion for furniture timber moved from oak and elm to mahogany
1899
  • Travis & Arnold formed as a partnership
1904
  • Travis & Arnold moves to Northampton and opens a number of branches in the Midlands as a merchant of timber and other wood products
1964
  • Travis & Arnold becomes a public company
1970
  • Sandell, Smythe & Drayson merges with Ingram Perkins to form Sandell Perkins offering a wide product range to service the construction industry
  • Travis & Arnold began more than a decade of substantial acquisitions including Brown & Son of Chelmsford, Ellis & Everard Building Supplies, and Kennedys
1986
  • Sandell Perkins becomes a public company
1988
  • Travis & Arnold and Sandell Perkins merge to become Travis Perkins plc
1994
  • Travis Perkins plc acquires AAH
1996
  • Travis Perkins plc acquires BMSS
1999
  • Travis Perkins plc acquires Keyline Builders Merchants and Sharpe & Fisher
2001
  • Travis Perkins plc opens its 500th branch in Preston
2002
  • Travis Perkins plc acquires City Plumbing Supplies Limited and CCF
2003
  • Acquisition of Jayhard and B&G reinforces the group's presence in the supply and distribution of plumbing and heating materials
  • Further brownfield site openings sees Travis Perkins plc hit a new milestone of 700 branches nationwide
  • Travis Perkins plc is awarded FSC and PEFC Chain of Custody Certification in recognition of the strong commitment shown by the group to using responsibly managed timber resources
  • First national builders merchant to be awarded ISO 14001 environmental accreditation
  • Voted Business of the Year at the Northamptonshire Business Excellence Awards
2004
  • Achieves Chain of Custody accreditation for all timber-supplying branches - more than any other national merchant
  • Football legend Sir Bobby Robson opens the group's 750th branch in Newcastle, signalling a new milestone in the group's history
2005
  • Travis Perkins plc acquires Wickes Home Improvement Group
  • Group colleagues raise more than £327,000 for the group's two nominated charities, the NSPCC and Macmillan Cancer Relief - a new group record
  • Awarded Hire & Rental Catalogue of the Year by HAE (Hire Association Europe) - the hire industry''s premier awards
2006
  • An historic occasion for Travis Perkins plc, as it opens its 1,000th branch in Hatfield, Hertfordshire
  • Travis Perkins plc wins the Company Driver Safety Award (Commercial vehicle category) at the prestigious Fleet Safety Forum Awards for Excellence
  • The Travis Perkins plc launches a new brand, Benchmarx Kitchens and Joinery - a trade-only one stop shop for the small specialist joiner
  • Travis Perkins plc becomes a patron of CRASH, the construction and property industry charity for the homeless
2007
  • CCF acquires Passmore & Co, based in London
  • Wickes announces franchising deal with Moritz Home Improvements in the Republic of Ireland
  • Travis Perkins plc acquires Tile Giant
2008
  • Travis Perkins plc invested in Toolstation, a rapidly growing direct retailer of tools and hardware. TP acquired 30% of the company in April and will provide further funding to support the growth of Toolstation’s business with the right to purchase the remaining 70% of the business after 4 years.
